House of Small Wonder

House of Small Wonders. Japanese food in Berlin | Vegan Japanese food in Berlin
Auguststraße 11-13, 10117 Berlin, Germany

Timings: Monday – Sunday (09:00 – 16:30)

A whimsical cafe serving comfort food with a Japanese twist. The HOSW is located very centrally in the Jewish quarter but is completely hidden from the outside world. If you weren’t looking for this place, you would almost always miss it even while walking right past. I loved sitting outside in the yard with all the creepers going all around. The cafe has a wide variety of vegan food and drink options and is great to visit for breakfast, lunch, or brunch. Keep in mind that the restaurant only serves the Japanese lunch specials after 11:00, it is worth waiting to try these out. You must have a look at the menu if you are looking for places to eat out in Berlin.

There are both vegan and non-vegan options available. I can definitely recommend trying out the Vegan Soboro and the Zucchini Noodle Salad. The Miso Soup together with the Sourdough Bread was also great! I loved the Iced Matcha Latte, but if this is not for you, great Tea and Coffee are also available. The HOSW also features a good selection of Cocktails, Beers, and Wine if you would like to get a drink here. What I missed was a vegan dessert option, but you could still opt for a fruit salad.

Huadou Soy Concept Store

Huadou Soy Concept Store. Iced matcha latte in berlin. Mung brownie in berlin. Soy milk in Berlin

Linienstraße 205, 10119 Berlin, Germany

Timings: Monday – Sunday (13:00 – 18:00)

The Huadou Soy Concept Store is a one-of-a-kind store where tradition meets modernity. The store is very centrally located and is not just a store or a cafe, but a place for you to learn about Soyand how it has been used traditionally throughout Eastern Asia. When you walk in, you find bamboo furniture, a traditional soy mill to slowly grind the soybeans, and mouth-watering drinks and sweets. The place offers a lot of cool events and workshops, such as learning to prepare your own tofu or attending a soy sauce and miso tasting. They have a lot to offer if you are looking to dig deeper into the topic of Soy. The store has easily made its place in our vegan guide.

We ordered the iced Adzuki Matcha latte, an ice drip coffee, and the matcha mung brownie with ice cream. The Latte and Mung Brownie had a lot of playful and flavorful notes and were very different compared to anything I have tried before. I love how the latte comes with different shades and a big straw so you chew on the Adzuki beans as you sip your latte. The brownie was so crumbly and worked perfectly with the subtle-tasting ice cream. My only regret is not ordering another one! You can also purchase a number of cool items from the store -a variety of soy sauce, miso, tamari, koji, etc. There is even a very cool Tofu-making box set available in case you are really convinced!

Zula Berlin

Zula Berlin. Israeli Food in Berlin | Vegan Israeli Food in Berlin

Husemannstraße 10, 10435 Berlin, Germany

Timings: Monday – Sunday (12:00 – 21:00)

Zula is a cozy little restaurant in the heart of the Kollwitzkiez in Prenzlauer Berg. This place has a very cozy and homely vibe to it. It is great to dine in, but because we wanted to enjoy dinner sitting by the Spree river, we had it to take away. You can grab a lunch or dinner here on any day of the week. If you love Israeli food, this restaurant is for sure worth a visit. Zula has a big focus on serving the best hummus together with freshly baked Pita bread. You can order hummus in different sizes and in combination with delicious toppings and extras.

We got the hummus with the African Mix. This place is not 100% Vegan, but there are a great number of food options available thus we had to include it in our guide to getting vegan food in Berlin. We tried the vegan Mejadra, falafel, green salad, and grilled aubergine. All the food was freshly prepared, quickly served, and extremely delicious. To drink we also got some lemonade with fresh mint and ginger. Zula offers a wide variety of cold and warm drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Desserts were temporarily unavailable, but there is a vegan cake option on the menu.

Lia’s Kitchen is a 100% Vegan restaurant located also in Prenzlauer Berg. The place has a great outdoor terrace setting and is the place to visit if you want to try out some amazing burgers! This young and busy restaurant earned its spot in our vegan guide very easily. Lia’s Kitchen is very hip and young and has a great vibe to it! Their food is prepared rather quickly.

We got the (vegan) Chicken Avocado Burger and the Oyster-Shiitake Mushroom Burger. Both were extremely fresh, very delicious, and quite juicy, everything you want from a burger! You can choose between normal fries or sweet potato fries, we got the sweet potato fries, and my, oh my, were they to die for! The portions of the food are quite big and filling. They offer some great non-alcoholic drinks but no desserts.

Die Vetzgerei

Die Vetzgerei. Plant based meat in berlin. Vegan meat in Berlin

Raumerstraße 36, 10437 Berlin, Germany

Timings: Monday – Saturday (12:00 – 19:00)

Die Vetzgerei is a very special 100% vegan concept store that is also located in Prenzlauer Berg. We had to include this place in our guide to eating out in Berlin even though it isn’t your typical restaurant or cafe. Die Vetzgerei is a plant-based butcher shop. You can find everything from egg salad to vegan sausages. We also tried the Maultaschen, LeberVurst (German Speciality), and vegan bacon. It was an amazing experience to try out all these alternatives and realize how far Veganism has come. Most of the items are prepared with Organic ingredients.

There are a few seats to eat in the store, but this is a great place to take away some of your favorites. Hot dishes are served only between 12:00 and 15:30. Alternatively, you can opt for a cold sandwich or prepare a mixed box full of different items. Die Vetzgerei also offers a nice variety of homemade sauces, dips, and salads which also make for a great gift. There are some cold and hot non-alcoholic drinks available, but no desserts.

Swing Kitchen

Rosenthaler Str. 63-64, 10119 Berlin, Germany | Georgenstraße 201, 10117 Berlin, Germany

Timings: Monday – Sunday (12:00 – 23:00) | Timings: Monday – Sunday (11:30 – 16:00)

Our guide to eating out in Berlin would be incomplete without a proper 100% Vegan fast-food option. The Swing Kitchen is the winner of the fast-food scene in Berlin. At the Swing Kitchen, you can be sure to get real burgers while also having a climate-friendly concept. Their mission is to think long-term – respect life, protect the environment, and save resources. Their packaging is without plastic, they produce everything fairly and pay their employees fairly. It is a win for everyone! The chain has 2 locations in Berlin. You can easily drop in for a late dinner at the centrally located Rosenthaler Strasse location since it’s open for much longer.

A concept that we personally really enjoyed was their drink dispenser. At the Swing Kitchen, you don’t use plastic or paper cups, you don’t get bottled drinks. You simply get a cup that you can fill as many times as you like and with any of the drink options. And they have more than 10 drink options, so you can really go crazy!

We ordered the Chili Burger, the tempeh wrap, and a garden salad. We also ordered onion rings and Sweet # fries (sweet potato lattice) together with Charly’s BBQ dip. The salad was garden fresh, the burger was juicy and very innovative and the wrap felt relatively healthy. Both the sides were very appetizing and the sauce was just magical. They also have a beautiful selection of vegan desserts such as the Almond Nougat Dream and the Apricot Yogurt Tartlets. We ordered these to go.

Chimney’s Cafe

Chimney's Cafe. vegan berlin

Brunnenstraße 173, 10119 Berlin, Germany | Warschauer Str. 81, 10243 Berlin, Germany

Timings: Monday – Sunday (13:00 – 22:00)

Chimney’s cafe offers a great treat for kids and adults alike. You need to try out Chimney’s at least once, it is a fun concept and a cool dessert option. This is why we had to include it in our vegan guide to eating out in Berlin. It is a 100% Vegan cafe and is loved by many for its signature treat – the chimney.

The chimney is a brioche-style cone filled with all sorts of toppings of your choice). You can choose one of their existing flavors or make your own creation. The way it generally works is that you start by choosing the topping that you want on the outside of your chimney. Then pick what you want to smear inside. After this, you choose a filling followed by sauce and toppings. The concept is quite epic and it is clear why everyone is hyped about it. Often you will find long queues outside both their locations in Berlin. However, if you visit at night, they really take their time to prepare your chimney.

Just 1 self-created chimney was quite a lot for us since it is quite big and can easily be shared. We went for the strawberry topping on the outside and the marshmallow smear on the inside. Then we had it filled with fresh strawberry and mango fruits but didn’t get any sauce. We topped it with strawberry and mango ice creams, no sauce and strawberry, and mango macarons.

Lula Deli & Grill

Lula Deli Berlin

Lauterstraße 14-15, 12159 Berlin, Germany

Timings: Monday – Sunday (09:00 – 21:00)

Lula Deli & Grill is located in a very cozy neighborhood, slightly further away from the city center. Lula offers both indoor and outdoor seating. It is worth visiting if you are looking to find comfort vegan food in Berlin. Lula made its way into our list because it has a very homely vibe and the food was great. Everything from breakfast to dinner is available at Lula. There weren’t too many vegan options on the menu, but the chef was happy to replace non-vegan ingredients with vegan ones.

We got a Mexican bowl which was veganized upon request along with a side of fries and some iced cappuccino. The Lentil and Pumpkin soup we ordered was very light and creamy and came with a serving of walnut bread. The portions were quite big and heavy, so it’s worth visiting when you are really hungry. Right next door is also the Lula am Markt (Lula’s takeaway store) which is open from Monday – Sunday (08:30 – 20:00). Here you can find a variety of vegan donut options, cinnamon rolls, and sourdough bread. You can also choose from Italian options such as pizza, focaccia and lasagna.

Bonvivant Cocktail Bistro

Goltzstraße 32, 10781 Berlin, Germany

Timings: Monday – Saturday (18:00 – 2:00), Saturday & Sunday (10:00 – 15:00)

The Bonvivant is more than just a restaurant, it is a fine dining experience! Bonvivant is a Vegetarian restaurant that offers brunch as well as dinner. The restaurant has 14 Gault Millau points. Sustainable and seasonal organic raw materials and resources are combined to create a beautiful menu. Each dish is the result of a culinary symbiosis of different cultures. Every bite of the food, each sip of the drink is exploding with different flavors. If you sit close to the bar, you can see the mixologist prepare the drinks that are paired with each course of the meal. The cocktails are for sure a special feature of Bonvivant.

The restaurant does offer a lot of vegan options on the menu. But the staff is extremely helpful and will surprise you with more specials created for you on the spot. We started off with the amuse bouche: fried nori with kohlrabi and carrot (Drink: Creation with Noilly-Prat), and freshly baked bread with olive oil-infused vegan butter. Next we got a dish prepared with fermented cucumber, smokey almond ice cream, and elderflower vinaigrette (Drink: Elderflower Kombucha). The main course was a sweet & sour leek with mashed potatoes marinated with mustard, potato espuma and miso (Drink: Sake with Umeboshi Umezu). Finally the dessert consisted of a cherry mousse, lemon balm, hazelnut cream, crumble and cherries (Drink: Sparkling Rosé with thyme cordial, Palo Santo smoke).

Bonvivant is really an experience to cherish, the restaurant feels very personal. We were very excited to discover this place and to our vegan guide to eating out in Berlin.

Li.Ke Thai Vegan

Li.Ke Thai. Thai vegan food in Berlin

Grünberger Str. 69, 10245 Berlin, Germany

Timings: Monday – Sunday (12:00 – 21:30)

Li.ke. Thai is a 100% Vegan restaurant located in the hip Southern side of the city. When looking at Asian places for eating out in Berlin, this is a great place to try out. The staff is very helpful and the food was great. This is honestly some of the best and most authentic Thai food I have tried. The outdoor sitting area is very welcoming and pleasant.

There are tons of items on the menu and you can choose between a mix of small and big portions. We ordered the Phad Thai, Phad Hed, Crazy Crispy, Pho Pia, and Chey Phas. There is also a good choice of Thai beer and some other alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. We ordered the Singha beer and a Mamuong Lassi. Food was served in different bowls along with separate plates and cutlery. When you order a lot of different things, you can have fun sharing the different dishes with your friends and family. This concept is great because it really makes you interact with the food and also your company. But of course, if you go by yourself and have a big appetite, it will be just as nice to try out all the different specialties. The food can quickly become quite filling so don’t get too many things off the menu to begin with.

Duo Sicilian Ice Cream

Skalitzer Str. 82, 10997 Berlin, Germany

Timings: Monday – Sunday (11:00 – 22:00)

Duo Sicilian Ice Cream shop is the topper of our list when it comes to desserts. This place is about 50% Vegan and 50% Vegetarian. Duo has to be listed in our vegan guide to eating out in Berlin. The ice cream here is unforgettable and so is the coffee. They have also some other treats (both vegan and non-vegan) such as canolli, granita, croissants filled with Various toppings, etc. It’s the place to be if you are wanting some cozy Italian feelings while eating out in Berlin.

The ‘Duo’ stands for the two flavors of ice cream you choose that are then served in a (vegan) cone or cup. We ordered the Lime & Maracuja in one cup, and the Hazelnut and Bitter Chocolate in another cup. We also got some Pistachio and Chocolate canolli as well as an Americano and a Capuccino. What a big treat! Honestly, we went here in the morning and this was all plenty to keep us going until lunch. There is an option to sit outside the cafe and enjoy your treats, or you can also take them away.
